Another lovely morning, pink sky dawn. A plane on the runway, hurray.
A new month.
Tax provisional and GST to pay on the 7th. I would have done reasonably ok this month apart from meat mincer and breaking the stand mixer. Only about 1/2 tank of petrol. Still not low enough to stay within budget, but moving in right direction. Also car and bike wof's to pay and also rates by end of month. Almost as bad as the house insurance and the NZRAB fees.
Web stuff
I've been doing the node js stuff, having some positive results with fake API creation and am now working on web scraping. Not particularly productive, the MoH website has table classes the same (which is not unreasonable as you want to format them the same, but no ID's so had real difficulty identifying the data to pull out. Have now got it so can now think about putting it somewhere. (Where the sun doesn't shine?)
Went into town
to see about PitStop for wof and they have cleared out. So went to Motorcycle shop and he is packing up to work at scooterama in Wakefield St. His lease is up. So went to Constable St to book in car for Wof.

covid diary Thursday 30th April 2020- Level 3 Day 3
A few clouds and I can hear the wind. 6.12am Runway lights on, airport lit like a christmas tree and no planes. I havent heard one take off yet. It is normally my 6am alarm clock.
No Green map as I forgot to update it. Refreshed but did not update the page. Was busily doing server side API call tutorials, which was very interesting with Node.js. I got right into it. Up to vid 5 of 6 I think. I've been able to replicate the code, I need to think about how I can use it in a project.

covid diary Wednesday 29th April 2020- Level 3 Day 2
Another stunning dawn. Clear skies. Definitely a walk for today.
Went to the Warehouse in Lyall Bay, doors open but only pickup, a big fellah at the door and a table in front. Apparently can oly go in when it goes to level 2.
I saw tha the stand mixer is back online, and i found the small $5 fa, so have ordered and hopefully will get an email saying I can come and pick them up. An interesting way to shop.
The API dash seems to be using yesterdays date. I'll need to check on that.

covid diary Tuesday 28th April 2020- Level 3 Day 1
A beautiful morning, wind dropped and clear. A zoom call soon at 8am to Gavin for his birthday.
I'm dissapointed with the Datawrapper table, I may swap it out for the Google one instead. Datawrapper not even generating data and refresh doesn't seem to work either. So updated to google table, see below.

covid diary Monday 27th April 2020- Lockdown Day 33 LAST DAY
Last day of lockdown level 4, Gavin's 60th birthday & ANZAC day observed, or not, as the case may be. Sounds very windy out, a Northerly.
I'm not that happy with the daawrapper table, slthough its more colourful than the google one, its far slower, as the API data goes to the Data wrapper server and it seems to update more slowly, so although updates are at 1pm those updates dont show for a couple of hours, which is pretty slow.

covid diary Sunay 26th April 2020- Lockdown Day 32
Lovely sunrise and a bit overcast, may be rain.
This is the API dashboard - code is pretty wicked and scruffy but it gets the job done.
I only found API global data that was a couple of days old, so thats not particularly current. Principal is there though.
I've been trying to get my head around No2 and covid deaths. I have been hunting for air quality data and got an api but it only allows you to get current data, not that good in lockdown situation as everyone at home.
In the end I got this map from Greenpeace, that shows No2 pollution in the Stastes. As you can see it is mainlyy on the East Side of the Continent.
I linked to a CSV of deaths for a couple of Days ago and filtered it to USA only and then from highest down and as you can see the places are predominantlyu in the East, lso places where there are red patches on the map like Detroit & Chicago. I had to google a lot of districts as they are not that clear but the higher end ones are all close to or in Red areas on the map. There is one on west cost but thats LA, which makes sense too.
I either had a massive amount of historic data or up to date data, so in the end it was easiest to do it by sight on a map, maybe putting pins on a map with a label of numbers would be another way of doing it. Say, take the top 30 locations and show them on a map. Actually, the Lat/Longs are given, so that is possible. Maybe that would be a good exercise to do.

Tartar sauce & mayonnaise for Fish and Chips, Cooking Rice
I'm making fish and chips so need some tartar sauce. The recipe below looks pretty straightforward.
I might try making the mayonaise again too.
mayonnaise:
I tried this one and it didn't thicken, I did usw mustard grainy instead of smooth mustard but I was whisking for ages and it didn't thicken at all. Maybe light on the oil, it did say 150ml which is quite a bit and I think I only used half of that.
Still good for the tartar sauce with fish and chips.
A vid on cooking rice:
this method worked really well, although I did forget to let it stand for 10 min afterwards for the first portion. A good video.
covid diary Saturday 25th April 2020- Lockdown Day 31
ANZAC day. I stood on porch for 30 sec in solidarity at 6.30am. Crisp and mild Slightly overast morning but clouds gave a great red dawning.
My API calling web page, finally got it to stay in the Div's and play nicely with the CSS (I had to put style data in the actual main html file:
This is a great article explaining infections and social distancing from Washington Post on 14th March that shows graphics of contamination in an environment.

covid diary Friday 24th April 2020- Lockdown Day 30
A stunner of a day. Yesterday a bit cool but warm this morning.
The table above reports 1451 total, it reported the same yesterday, initially the Stuff one reported 1454 (correctly) to include the 3 new cases, but it somehow came back to 1451 today. This infers that its scraping the summary table on the MoH website, as I am. So we can see how errors occur.
This is also the interesting France divergence between John Hopkins and Bing, which have a difference of about 400,000 for total cases but report the same deaths.
Yes, it did come out of China and yes, it did trigger social distancing/lockdown protocols around the world.
I wonder if temperature has something to do with it? Humidity? Or higher immunity in developing countries , less rbust immunity in America/Europe due to eradicating more diseases there?
I did a google Spreadsheet that looked at all the regions, initially (top charts, by general lumps, Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa & Oceanea. Then drilling down to su regions. Basically North America & Europe pretty mogodored, Asia overall shows up but once split into the sub regions (2 graphs at bottom) they do not stand out at all, especially for the last week. Africa just isn't showing up, its sitting near Oceania in the top graphs.

Covid. A western disease ?
There was an article about 0 deaths from Covid in Vietnam, and I started looking at counties such as Cambodia, Bangladesh and Thailand. They all have minimal deaths and dont seem to be getting many cases. I've been waiting for India to explode in numbers but it hasn't. So is this a western disease? States, Canada & Europe case numbers and deaths far higher than anywhere else in the world. Africa, Asia & Middle East all looking OK, Russia and the Stan's too. South America getting a few more than Asia and Africa, but not on the scale of Europe & America. Why is that? Its not as if social distancing is easier for them, especially in main developing cities with high squatter communities.Yes, it did come out of China and yes, it did trigger social distancing/lockdown protocols around the world.

covid diary Thursday 23rd April 2020- Lockdown Day 29
Overcast and drizzly in the morning.
Sam's birthday yesterday, Zoe came back to say she had the dates wrong.I sent Sam a text, no reply.
Chatting with Mary, she's been sending amusing covid jokes through.
I went shopping,
i only wanted veges and fruit and eggs, so after walk along all of Lyall bay at low tide I went to go to Pak'n'Save but again big queues out the door, so I headed into Newtown New World. A bit more expensive but reasonably empty.
I had about 165 views of my GlideApps videos overnight, so am thinking of doing another video on one calling an API.

covid diary Wednesday 22nd April 2020- Lockdown Day 28
Another lovely autumn day. A couple of very wicked and entertaining videos from Gavin & Mary.
There was a great feed from Datawrapper :
There was a great feed from Datawrapper :
I think this is great. A full circle. I started with Sheets and importing Data and I now have to revisit Sheets with JSON call. Brilliant.
I love this one too:
andI love Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights music from Romeo & Juliet
Following along about air pollution : This is a great source, I wonder if it has an api?
